Live at The Break Room 1999.
Live is a live album by American emo band Sunny Day Real Estate. A set list from the How it Feels to Be Something On tour, it was released in 1999 on Sub Pop. Sunny Day Real Estate was apparently displeased with the outcome of the record. However, their label Sub Pop apparently did not run the record by the band before releasing it to the public. This record is allegedly the reason why Sunny Day Real Estate left Sub Pop for another label.
The core of Sunny Day Real Estate formed in 1992, originally under the name Empty Set. Empty Set consisted of Dan Hoerner (guitar, vocals), Nate Mendel (bass), and William Goldsmith (drums). They released a 7-inch, Flatland Spider, before a tumultuous period of musical chairs and name changes. In that timeframe, Mendel took a break to tour with another band, Hoerner took over the bass, and the group was joined by Jeremy Enigk, a high school friend of Goldsmith. Before long, Enigk ascended as the permanent frontman of the band. Where Hoerner’s vocal style had been in the rougher, hardcore vein, Enigk’s higher-pitched, somewhat strained vocal style added greater emotional depth to the band’s songs. When Mendel returned, the complete band settled on the name Sunny Day Real Estate. They released another 7-inch, Thief, Steal Me a Peach in 1993.

As big an SDRE fan …
As big an SDRE fan as I am, I didn’t actually like this song up until recently, I’m not sure why though. “Faces In Disguise” is still my favorite though.
Watching this makes …
Watching this makes me all giddy. I can’t wait until September.
SDRE REUNION TOUR …
SDRE REUNION TOUR FALL 2009
eh weezer is more …
eh weezer is more of alternative, sunny day is close to indie. also, weezer has NEVER been emo. ive never even heard them called emo.they have depressing songs sometimes but not really emo.
I still love …
I still love Jeremys voice but he ‘cleaned’ it up after the Pink Album. It’s hard to go back and sing the song ‘right’ without the cathartic madness of Diary and TPA. For the most part it still sounds great, though. It’s just the peak during the chorus that doesn’t quite come across well.
what a wonderful …
what a wonderful band <3
So Dan plays in …
So Dan plays in Dashboard Confessional? I didn’t know that. Does he play on tour for them or something?

They’re not even …
They’re not even from the Midwest and there isn’t a difference.
Yeah the only “emo” …
Yeah the only “emo” band (if everybody calls it that) I like next to “Weezer”…. even though both bands do sound more like indie rock!
I don’t really consider whether this is emo or not…. I just divide a rock band in good or bad …or the one that I like or dislike…. and they were a great band in my opinion… however the vocals here sound quite awful, still sure the 90’s bands were so much better than these current comercial lame bands!!!
ChaosSpades is …
ChaosSpades is right. Why are we ting ourselves over what to call something? You like music or you don’t, that’s all there should be to it.
Theres always …
Theres always someone arguing about what genre to label a band. It doesnt matter. Call it whatever you want. What does matter is that SDRE was amazing and this is a great video so props to whoever posted it.
this is not emo!
…
this is not emo!
this genre is called Midwest Emo.
There’s a big difference!
Check that…the “J …
Check that…the “J” stands for Jeff…Jeff Palmer
I could be wrong, …
I could be wrong, but I don’t think it’s Joe Palmer. I know there’s a J. Palmer who replaced Nate after he joined Foo Fighters, but I don’t know what the “J” stands for. But somewhere between recording How It Feels To Be Something On, J. Palmer left Sunny Day and was replaced by Joe Skyward for the tour. Joe Skyward is a stage name; I believe his real name is Joe Howard. He used to play in the Posies.
people just sort it …
people just sort it so its easier to access. If you like a band, check out other bands with that label. Its not meant to be derogatory, people just make it sound like all emo is for s. Its like…all food is good…why must we label it. How long would you be at the music/grocery store if music isnt labelled.
